Jammu: In a significant move to curb illegal influx of Rohingya refugees and to ensure public safety, the Jammu Police has identified several instances and likewise registered cases against landlords who have rented their properties undocumented illegal immigrants and pose a potential security threat.
The police spokesman said that the Jammu District Commissioner has issued an order making police verification of tenants mandatory for all property owners in the district.
“The directive comes in light of increasing concerns regarding the potential threat posed by anti-social elements and unauthorized individuals who may use rented properties for illegal activities,” he said.
The spokesman said that the Jammu Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation and registered cases, under relevant sections in the Police Station Nowabad against Farman Ali of Bhawani Nagar, Talab Tillo Jammu; and Azam Malik of Ashti Mohalla, Batmalo, Srinagar respectively.
Three cases were registered in the Police Station Bahu Fort against Asima Latief of Rehima Abad, Bathindi; Mohd Shakeel of Rehima Abad, Bathindi and Zakir Hussain of Dungian, Bathindi, respectively.
The Jammu Police remained committed to safeguarding the interests of the public and urged landlords to exercise due diligence and conduct thorough police verification of tenants before renting out their properties, said the spokesman.
