Tangdhar Karnah : In a strategic move to enhance civil-military coordination, the Commander of the 104 Infantry Brigade met informally with Karnah MLA, Javaid Mirchal, accompanied by Brigade staff and the SHO. Key issues impacting the local population were addressed, with both parties underscoring their commitment to finding collaborative solutions. Among the main topics discussed were water shortages in Forward Sadpura, where villagers have struggled with restricted flow from PoK channels, and the need to revitalize an older lift irrigation system to improve water access for locals.

The meeting also covered MLA Mirchal’s proposal to streamline frisking procedures at NC Pass by considering a full-body vehicle scanner, though costs remain a challenge. A significant change is in motion, however, as the Brigade plans to move frisking facilities to SM Hill, creating a smoother process that could benefit the region’s tourism. Other concerns raised included streamlining the pre-verification process for Territorial Army recruitment, enabling teachers and government staff posted in remote areas to travel more easily, and increasing porter recruitment in Karnah.

Further, the Commander highlighted ongoing infrastructure and sports development plans, including a potential new Army Goodwill School for nearby villages and academies for volleyball and cricket to nurture local talent. MLA Mirchal assured his support, particularly through the Constituency Development Fund, for these initiatives, as well as for a cleanliness drive in Tangdhar. Both the Commander and the MLA voiced their shared commitment to these initiatives, which promise to uplift the region’s living standards and foster closer civil-military ties.
