Kupwara – In a recognition ceremony held today at the District Police Headquarters, Ghulam Jeelani Wani-JKPS, SSP Kupwara, honored eight distinguished officers and personnel from District Police Kupwara. These individuals were awarded Cash Rewards sanctioned by the Police Headquarters (PHQ) and received DGP’s Commendation Certificates for their exemplary work in securing a conviction in Case FIR No. 56/2019, under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, related to a significant seizure of 15 kilograms of brown sugar.

The investigative team, led by Inspector Waseem Ahmad with support from Assistant Public Prosecutor Ab Rashid Dar, Inspector Azad, and SI Zaffar, played a crucial role in the successful prosecution. Their thorough efforts led to the conviction of two accused individuals. On August 28, 2023, the Hon’ble Court of Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Kupwara) found the accused guilty, sentencing them on September 5, 2023, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹2 lakh each.

During the ceremony, SSP Ghulam Jeelani Wani praised the team’s dedication, professionalism, and hard work, noting the pride their success brings to the police force and their families. He expressed hope that the recognition would inspire others in the department to pursue excellence in investigations. The awards, sanctioned by PHQ, aim to uplift morale and motivate personnel to continue their diligent work in service to the community.

SSP Wani concluded by extending his best wishes to the team for future achievements, underscoring the importance of integrity and commitment in combating narcotics-related crimes in the region.
