Srinagar, Oct 20 : The death toll in the terrorist attack on non-local workers in the Gagangir area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has risen to six, as four more injured people, including a doctor, succumbed to their injuries late Sunday evening.

An official said the terrorists opened fire on a camp housing laborers of a private company working on a tunnel construction project in the Gund area. Three laborers died initially, and now three more, including a doctor, have succumbed to their injuries, he said.

Meanwhile, a massive search operation is underway at the site, with top security officials, including the DGP of J&K and IGP Kashmir, having reached the location to supervise the operation.

Meanwhile, the LG Manoj Sinha while condemning the attack in a post on X said “I strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack on civilians in Gagangeer. I assure the people that those behind this despicable act will not go unpunished. We have given full freedom to J&K Police, Army and Security forces”

“Our brave personnel are on the ground & they will ensure terrorists pay a very heavy price for their action. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families. Praying for speedy recovery of the injured. The entire nation stands in solidarity with the families in this hour of grief,” he said.

Furthermore, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, reached SKIMS Soura, where the injured have been shifted for treatment.—(NVI)
