Stresses on sustainable & scientific mining

 

SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 16: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar today chaired a meeting with District Mineral Officer (DMO) Shopian and lease holders of mineral blocks of the district in order to seek compliance on sustainable and scientific mining activities.

 

During the meeting, the lease holders were reminded about their responsibilities for conducting the mining activities as per statutory requirements and guidelines.

 

DMO Shopian, Naseer Ahmad apprised that 20 mineral blocks exist in the district and submitted the status of mineral blocks, their activities by way of adhering to norms of sustainable mining, etc.

 

The DDC on the occasion engaged in comprehensive deliberation on various environmental, social and economic parameters of mining in the district.

 

The lease holders were instructed to restrict the mining up to the approved depth only and submit EMP/ CER accounts for corporate environmental responsibility along with installation of signages for displaying identification of blocks and compliance to other norms of environmental conservation and protection.

 

DDC asked for taking up afforestation initiatives, development of grazing lands, green belt development and strictly adhering to air, water and noise quality control and preservation, conservation and protection of endangered flora and fauna in their allotted blocks.

 

The DDC laid special emphasis on fulfilling their corporate social responsibility (CSR) and also asked for detailed work wise plans under the initiative.

 

The meeting was also attended by DIO Showkat Hussain and other concerned.
