An official said, “The devastating fire, caused by an electrical short circuit, has completely destroyed three houses and partially damaged two others. The affected property owners have been identified as Abdul Rashid Gujri, Abdul Gaffar Bhat, Ghulam Rasool Waza, Gh Mohd Gulam, and Mushtaq Ahmed Dar.”

“We faced difficulties reaching the spot due to vehicles parked by locals along the roadside, which is a common issue in the downtown areas and causes delays in our rescue operations. Despite these challenges, we were able to control the situation and prevent further damage to nearby structures, including the Sheikhul Alam Hospital and the Community Hall in Chotta Bazar which were close to the spot.” A fire service official added.

Local relief organizations have stepped in to provide temporary relief to the affected families, offering shelter and basic necessities. Meanwhile, community members are urging authorities to take immediate steps to provide these families with long-term relief and assistance to help them recover from the disaster.

The incident has sparked worries about the area’s readiness for emergencies, with residents demanding stricter regulations, particularly regarding roadside parking, which exacerbates the challenges.
