Anantnag, September 08: In a significant breakthrough, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has successfully implanted a dual-chamber Intracardiac Defibrillator (ICD), marking the first such procedures in any new peripheral medical college in the UnionTerritory of Jammu and Kashmir.
LBB area pacing, a cutting-edge technique currently performed in only 5-10% of established medical colleges across India, has become a routine procedure in the institution and underscores the growing expertise and facilities at GMC Anantnag.
Pacemaker, ICD, CRT, and LBB area pacing marks the zenith of device implantation in any state of art cardiac center.
It is pertinent to mention here that all the procedures are being done under C- arm, as the cathlab is in the process of installation.
The procedures were conducted by a skilled team of senior cardiologists, including Dr. Syed Maqbool, Dr. Shamim Iqbal, and Dr. Showkat H. Shah, with dedicated anesthetics and trained technicians. All cases so far were executed seamlessly, with no complications.
Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal of GMC Anantnag, congratulated the team for their achievement and highlighted that Device implantations are now routinely performed by the institution’s experienced cardiologists using C-Arm technology. She further announced that the Cath lab construction is nearing completion and is expected to be operational within a few weeks, providing crucial cardiac care to the people of South Kashmir.
Dr. Owvass Hamied Dar, Spokesperson and Senior Consultant Radiologist, emphasized that the ability to perform pacemaker implantations at GMC Anantnag has brought immense relief to local patients, who previously had to travel to GMC Srinagar or SKIMS Soura for such procedures.
This achievement not only highlights the advancements in healthcare at GMC Anantnag but also reaffirms the institution’s commitment to providing top-tier medical services to the community.
