Srinagar, 09 Jul: Under the active support & Guidance of Administrative Secretary Deptt of Health & Medical Education UT of J&K Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah and advisory & Logistic support of Principal / Dean GMC Srinagar Prof Dr. Iffat Hassan , for the first time Amniotic fluid testing ( AFT ) was conducted in the Genetic clinic of Fetal Medicine of Lalla Ded hospital.

The functioning of the genetic clinic has been carried out under the supervision of Prof Dr Rizwana Habib HOD Obstetrics and Gynaecology GMC Srinagar and active support of Prof Dr Majid Jehangir, HOD Deptt of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging and Dr Muzaffer Ahmad Jan MS Lalla Ded Hospital.

The clinic will be a boon for patients of the valley as they had to travel outside the valley for antenatal procedures like amniocentesis. The efforts of Prof Dr Ambreen Qureshi and team has been praise worthy for pre and post procedural care and workup.

The procedure was undertaken by Dr Hakeem Aijaz Associate Professor Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging and the samples were acquired from a 27 year old female for genetic testing in view of positive NIPT and quadruple test.

All the guidelines as per PC PNDT Act were followed .Post procedure fetal and maternal vitals were maintained .

The Establishment of Genetic Lab will go a long way in providing good patient care and provision of quality health services with specialised procedures & tests in Govt Medical College Srinagar and will be beneficial not only for the patients of the valley and but also for patients from other parts of the UT of J&K.
