International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21st, was established by the United Nations in 2014 following a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recognized globally, this day aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga, an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India. The practice of yoga is known to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and mental clarity, and is celebrated worldwide for its holistic approach to health and wellness.

The celebration at Model Higher Secondary School Sawjian was held under the overall supervision and guidance of Principal Anwar Khan. A five-member committee, led by Vice Principal Mohd Shafi, was constituted to organize the event.

Adil Hamid Qureshi, Teacher, spoke about the history and background of International Yoga Day, providing insights into how this global observance came to be and its significance in today’s world.

A total of 24 staff members and 186 students from classes 9th to 12th participated in performing various yoga asanas. Under the expert guidance of Parvez Ahmed Khan, Lecturer in Physical Education, the participants engaged in a series of yoga exercises, demonstrating their commitment to integrating these practices into their lives.
