The Tangdar Karnah Mela concluded in two days. The Indian Army organized a significant event called the ‘Tangdar Cultural Festival’ for Karnah Kupwara, supported by the civil administration. This cultural fair took place on June 10th and 11th, 2024, near Government Degree College, Kandy. The ceremony was inaugurated by the GOC 28 Infantry Division on June 10th, 2024. The two-day event commenced with the chief guest’s inauguration, followed by a local Gatka dance performance. The cultural program focused on local traditions, featuring captivating performances such as Musharas and folk songs with music highlighting Pahari and Gujri culture by local artists. Various stalls showcased local food, clothing, and antiques, including the famous Red Rice, Rajma, and other specialty agricultural products of Karna. The event also included amusement rides, food stalls, and sports activities for children.
Schools from Tangdar participated in competitions like dance, skit, and painting, displaying the immense talent of Karna’s youth and enhancing the cultural atmosphere. A mountain lunch, organized by the local community, promoted local cuisine. Additionally, a free medical health check-up camp, PMKVY stalls, and a stall by Sher Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology were set up to spread awareness about horticulture and floriculture. The event featured a cultural rally themed ‘Unity in Diversity,’ where people of all ages showcased Karna’s indigenous costumes. Local ex-servicemen actively participated in the rally. The event concluded with a prize distribution and felicitation of the organizers following fancy dress, dance, and skit competitions for children. Remember, the Manoranjan Mela starts tomorrow and will last for 20 days.
