kARNAH: Voting took place on Monday for the Baramulla parliamentary seat, including the border area of Karnah, where a voter turnout of 61.74% was recorded. The people of Karnah actively participated in the polling process, driven by issues like unemployment, public problems, and the construction of a tunnel on Sadhana Top.

In Karnah’s first assembly constituency, voters braved the cold on Monday morning to cast their votes. They were motivated by public issues and the need for infrastructure improvements, particularly the construction of the Sadhana Top tunnel. Despite being neglected by previous governments and politicians who disappear post-elections, the voters still turned out in significant numbers. Early in the morning, long queues were seen outside polling booths, as people came to elect their preferred leaders.

In other border villages along the Line of Control, such as Simari, Kardama, Bayari, Amrohi, Dargar, and Jabri, fairs were held outside polling stations.

During the election campaign in Teetwal and Tangdar blocks of Karnah under the SEOP program, efforts were made to educate new voters about the importance and benefits of voting. It’s noteworthy that before the recent delimitation, Karnah’s assembly constituency extended up to Keran. However, the new delimitation commission redefined the boundaries, separating it from Keran and including some areas of Karalpora, which added thousands of votes. Karna now has 55 polling stations, categorized into pink, yellow, and red stations. The total number of voters in the constituency is 57,576, with 29,018 male and 28,558 female voters. Of these, 35,550 votes were cast, including 18,297 male and 17,253 female voters.
