Karnah, Kupwara: The recent torrential downpours have unleashed chaos across various parts of the Karanah region, leaving a devastating impact in their wake. Multiple residential structures have borne the brunt of the deluge, sparking fears for the safety of residents. Urgent measures are imperative to gauge the extent of the devastation and extend assistance to affected communities.

Prominent figures like Raja Manzoor and Chairman of the Civil Society , Peerzada S.D Qureshi have sounded the alarm on the pressing need to assess the incurred losses. Reports flooding in from Karanah depict residential areas submerged under water, with structural integrity compromised due to land subsidence.

In Tangdhar, numerous households are grappling with water ingress, while in Kandi Karnah, the crumbling walls of properties owned by individuals like Waqar Ahmed Khan and Sajjad Ahmed Khan pose imminent threats to occupants. Thankfully, swift action by locals facilitated the safe relocation of Waqar Ahmed Khan and his family to secure locations last night.

However, the lack of preventive measures during the construction of Jada Road has exacerbated the crisis, with water seepage and debris accumulation placing properties, such as those belonging to Adil Sayeed and renowned journalist Ashfaq Sayeed, at grave risk in Kandi Mohallah.

Villages like Gabra Tad, Tetwal, Ghondi, Gajran, and Ghondi Shot have also witnessed stone and debris showers, exacerbating the predicament. Despite efforts to clear roads with machinery, ongoing complaints from locals highlight the absence of preventive measures during road construction, perpetuating risks for the community.

Furthermore, ongoing construction on Takiya Bhaderkote Road has amplified concerns, with delays and haphazard planning adding to the distress among residents.

Former MLA of Karanah, Advocate Raja Manzoor Khan, has voiced profound concern over the incurred losses, urging prompt action from the administration. Immediate deployment of teams is paramount to assess the damage and extend vital support to affected areas.
