KARNAH: In Karnah, a group of contractors organized a protest at the premises of the Sub-Division Office Karnah on Monday. They raised concerns over the expiration of their bills, totaling more than one crore, which has put them in a dire situation. President Qazi Abdul Rahman expressed frustration, highlighting that they had successfully completed various construction projects under the Jal Shakti R&B and Flood Control Department in Karnah Sub Division. They had anticipated receiving payment before Eid, but were dismayed to learn that their bills exceeding one crore couldn’t be settled due to lapsing funds.

One contractor, Tawfiq Ahmed Sheikh, elaborated on the repercussions of this situation. He explained that they had borrowed money from banks to finance their projects, and now they are struggling to repay those loans. Additionally, they are facing pressure from various stakeholders, including laborers, suppliers of construction materials, and owners of vehicles used in their projects. These parties are demanding payment, adding to the financial strain on the contractors.

Overall, the contractors find themselves trapped under the weight of their unpaid bills, which not only affects their own financial stability but also impacts the livelihoods of those who have supported their projects.
