KULGAM, MARCH 30: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss various measures aimed to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district, and review the implementation of decisions and directions passed in previous meeting.

During the meeting, a threadbare discussion was held on various issues pertaining to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use, and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curbing the menace of drugs.

The meeting was informed that 11 panchayats are declared drug free in the district. It was also shared that 22 Drug Peddlers were arrested and 16 FIRs were registered during the current month.

The DC instructed concerned to convene meeting of Tehsil and Gram panchayat level committees regularly.

Moreover, stringent measures were directed towards ensuring zero cultivation of illicit crops in the district.

The Social Welfare Department was tasked with formulating a comprehensive plan for impactful awareness programs.

Assistant Drug Controller reported on the recent inspections of pharmacies, with 106 conducted during the current month. She was further instructed to intensify these inspections.

The meeting was attended by ADC, Viqar Ahmed Giri; ACD, Syed Naseer; ACR, Mushtaq Ahmad; SDM Noorabad, Bashir Ul Hassan; ACP, Nazia Hassan and other officers from police and civil administration.
