Karnah: As per the Meteorological Department’s forecast, Karnah sub-division in the Kupwara district experienced heavy snowfall for the second consecutive day, severely affecting normal life and resulting in the closure of traffic. Significant snow accumulation was observed on the highway, with three feet reported at Sadhana Gali, ten inches in Tangdhar, and one foot in Nichian. Despite efforts by the Roads & Buildings department to clear the main connecting roads, several upland areas, including Jada, remain snowed in, leading to ongoing road closures due to challenging snow removal operations exacerbated by adverse weather conditions. However, the department is working tirelessly to restore primary communication routes. Authorities have issued warnings advising against travel to higher elevations due to the heightened risk of landslides and rockfalls. The persistent snowfall has also caused disruptions to the power system, although teams from the electricity department are actively working to restore power. Furthermore, significant snow accumulation has been reported in various areas, such as Kandi,Dildar, Batpura, Lontha Shathpulah Salman and Tangdhar, exacerbating difficulties for residents. Additionally, it has been reported that the houses of Muhammad Idris Khawaja and Muhammad Ilyas Khawaja in the Tangdhar area of Karnah have suffered damage from falling trees. Authorities must prioritize assistance for individuals whose homes have been damaged and provide them with appropriate compensation.
