After two weeks of closure Gurez-Bandipora road opened for vehicular movement

Bandipora, Feb 14:- The 84-Km Gurez Bandipora road has been opened for one way vehicular movement on Wednesday after two weeks of closure due to heavy snowfall.

Local residents while hailing the efforts of Beacon said that the road has been opened in a record breaking time of two weeks.

“We are very happy that the road opening will connect us to other parts of our district. We will easily move towards Bandipora for any essential services,” locals said.

Earlier Deputy Commissioner Bandipora in a Tweet on X, wrote that the snow clearance work on Gurez- Bandipora road have been cleared and one way traffic will be allowed to Wednesday on the road.

Meanwhile an official said that the man and machinery was working continuously to clear the accumulation of the snow from the road.

He also said that the one way vehicular movement on the road will be allowed from today until the weather permits.

“We have completed the snow clearance operation on this road last week, but due to bad weather the road was closed for traffic. However, vehicles have been allowed to move on the road today,” and the drivers are recommended to travel to Gurez with snow-skid chains as a precaution.he said’.

He added that it as a great relief for the local population of Gurez as the area was cutt-off for the last six months.

Notably, Gurez area remains cut off from the rest of the Srinagar due to the accumulation of snow along the high peaks through which the road passes.
