The program aimed at individuals who have applied for different trades under the Vishwakarma Scheme had its core purpose in informing participants about the benefits and opportunities the scheme offers. Er. Mohammad Shafi Bhat, the Principal of GWP Srinagar, inaugurated the event, setting the tone for an insightful and beneficial session.
Hakim Mohammad Ilyas, the Incharge of the Vishwakarma Scheme GWPs, delivered a detailed presentation, explaining the broader objectives of the scheme. Launched in late 2023 by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the Vishwakarma Scheme aims to empower ordinary artisans and craftsmen to become entrepreneurs. Ilyas highlighted the significance of the 5-day training followed by a 15-day program, emphasizing that it serves as a stepping stone for participants to acquire skills, literacy, and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Recognition of Prior Learning involves assessing an individual’s existing skills, knowledge, and experiences gained through formal, non-formal, or informal learning.
Upon completing the course, certified Vishwakarma individuals become eligible for hassle-free bank loans of up to 3 lakhs to establish their own businesses. They are also registered under the Government E-Market (GeM) and can participate in various government tenders, availing bank loans as needed. This holistic approach aims to elevate skilled individuals to a level at par with the educated section of society.
The participants expressed happiness and enthusiasm during the program, showing a keen interest in contributing to the brighter future of a Skilled India. Such initiatives play a crucial role in empowering individuals, fostering entrepreneurship, and contributing to the overall growth of a skilled workforce. The positive response from participants indicates the potential success of the Vishwakarma Scheme in creating avenues for economic growth and sustainable livelihoods.
