IIMC Jammu hosts maiden alumni meet after becoming deemed university

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 6: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Jammu, one of the six regional centres of IIMC, a premier institute of Government of India, organised an alumni meet titled ‘Jammu Jamghat’ at its new campus in Bantalab, Jammu. The theme of the first of its kind alumni meet was ‘Rewind, Relieve and Reconnect’.

Pertinently Jammu has a unique distinction being home to other premier institutes like IIM, IIT, AIIMS besides IIMC.

On the occasion, Prof Anil Kumar Saumitra, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu, who is also an alumnus of IIMC, shared his thoughts with the students. He said that the culture of IIMC was very different from other media institutions and that the alumni of the institute have achieved leading positions in the industry.

Prof Rakesh Goswami, former Regional Director of IIMC, Jammu, along with Prof KG Suresh, former Director General IIMC and Vice-Chancellor Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, shared their experiences of IIMC Jammu and views through video messages. They said that it was a proud moment for them that IIMC has become Deemed to be University.

Abhishek Khajuria and Harry Walia, alumni of IIMC, Jammu, shared their student and media experiences with the current students. The programme was conducted by Abhinav Kumar Srivastava, another alumnus. The alumni also talked about being part of IIMC, a reputed media institution, and the importance of alumni network. They also gave insights and tips to the current students on student life and career.

The other alumni who joined the meet were Krishna Gopal Srivastava, Harshit Seth, Rajeev Singh, Aditya Singh, Rohan Deva, Gaurav Rawat, Akash Rathod and Lucky Kumar.

The alumni meet also witnessed the presence of some former faculty and other dignitaries who had contributed to the growth and development of IIMC, Jammu. They were Sanjeet Khajuria, former faculty; Dinesh Mehrotra, General Secretary, Press Club of Jammu; Sant Kumar Sharma, former academic advisor, IIMC, Jammu; Dr Ravia Gupta, Lecturer, University of Jammu and former faculty, IIMC Jammu; and Vishv, former faculty.

The current faculty of IIMC, Jammu, also participated in the alumni meet and shared their views and experiences with the former and current students. They were Dr Dilip Kumar, Course Coordinator Journalism (English); Dr Vinit Kumar Jha Utpal, Course Coordinator Digital Media; Dr Anshula Gurg, Assistant Professor and Yasir Arfat, Assistant Professor. They also appreciated the efforts and achievements of the alumni and encouraged the students to follow their footsteps.
