During their visit, they briefed the participants on the aims and objectives of the program, highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting the unique carpet making handicraft of the Kashmir region.

The Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programs aims to enhance the capabilities of local carpet weaving artisans, providing them with valuable skills and entrepreneurial knowledge that will contribute to the sustainability of their craft. Saheel Alaqband, expressed the government’s commitment to supporting and uplifting the artisan community. “The rich heritage of carpet making in Kashmir is an integral part of our cultural identity. Through these skill development programs, we aim to empower participants with the tools they need to thrive in a competitive market while preserving the authenticity of their craft and also inputs on entrepreneurship from various stakeholders will help them establish their own micro units,” Alaqband said. He also said that Craft can be presented in multiple ways which will help artisans earn their livelihood and ensure direct benefits.

Zubair Ahmad Mir, Director IICT Srinagar, emphasized the institute’s role in fostering skill development. “We are delighted to collaborate with MSME DFO in this initiative.
