KARNAH: Due to recent snowfall, authorities have temporarily closed the Karnah-Kupwara highway for vehicular traffic. The latest information indicates a one-foot accumulation of fresh snow on the highway, with the neck areas experiencing one and a half feet of snow. The Department of Meteorology forecasts ongoing snowfall in the upper and plain areas of the valley, accompanied by intermittent rain in the plain regions since Thursday morning. Snowfall commenced in the upper areas of Karnah on Thursday morning, persisting intermittently until late evening. As a consequence of a one-foot accumulation of fresh snow on the Nastha Chin Street of Karnah, the administration has taken the precautionary measure of temporarily closing the Karnah-Kupwara highway for vehicles. In addition to Sadhana Top, other areas, including the Shamsbari mountain range, Ragini Top, Bangus Wadi, Taaya, Danna, and Dab, have reported significant snow accumulation, leading to an observed increase in frost. Regions such as Kandi, Dildar Batpura, Tangdhar, Loontha, Shatpala, and various other areas of Karnah are also experiencing intermittent rains since morning. Residents and travelers are strongly advised against venturing into the upper areas during adverse weather conditions due to the potential risk of avalanches and snowfall on the highway. The situation is being closely monitored, and safety precautions are being urged to ensure the well-being of the public in light of these weather conditions.
