Direct officers to make SBM-G as top priority

KUPWARA, NOVEMBER18: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) in the district.

During the meeting, the DC took a detailed review of the status/ implementation of SBM-G and waste management plan in rural areas of the district.

At the outset, ACP Kupwara, Mudassir Ahmed apprised the Deputy Commissioner, on all the agenda points through Power-point presentation.

It was given out in the meeting that out of 356 Segregation Sheds proposed in the district, 223 have been completed and work is in progress on the remaining segregation sheds.

Deputy Commissioner impressed upon the officers to ensure that timeline is met in all the developmental projects and matters involving land dispute should be conveyed to the concerned Tehsildars, at the earliest so that developmental projects are not delayed on this count.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that sanitation services should be provided with full zeal and zest. The BDOs were directed to furnish certificates that all the Legacy Waste Sites have been cleared of waste.

They were asked to chart out a plan to develop all the legacy waste sites into public parks and other civic amenities as per the suitability of these sites. In order to deal with recurrent generation of wastes, especially around market places, it was decided that BDOs, in coordination with PRIs, will work out a plan to impose user charges on those availing sanitation services.

ACP informed the chair that out of 22 proposed Plastic Waste Management Units, 18 have been tendered out and work is in progress on 15 of them. DC impressed upon the officers concerned to expedite the procurement of Machinery for the Plastic Waste Management Units.

The DC directed the officers and field functionaries of RDD to take the SBM-G on top most priority in the district and work in complete coordination and synergy so that cleanliness of villages of Kupwara district is ensured.

She asked the officers to sensitize the people regarding segregation of solid and wet waste at household level for better waste management across the rural areas of the district.

The meeting was attended by ACP Kupwara Mudassir Ahmed, District information officer Kupwara, Iftakhar Naseem, BDOs and other concerned officers.
