In response to the allegations made against Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, hospital authorities have clarified the situation.
The allegations surfaced after a family claimed that their son passed away due to negligence on the part of doctors at the hospital.

Speaking to Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohammad Bajjar said that the patient, Sikandar Abass, had a pre-existing heart condition and had previously undergone open heart surgery in Delhi eight years ago. When Abass arrived at GMC Rajouri on October 18th, doctors treated him and stabilized his condition. However, they advised the attendants to consult a heart surgeon at a higher facility for further assistance.

The attendants, unfortunately, took the patient home without informing the hospital staff on duty. On October 23rd, when Abass was brought back to the hospital’s emergency department in a critical state, with no detectable pulse or blood pressure, the doctors on duty made every effort to resuscitate him. Despite their best efforts, the patient could not be revived.

Following this, the attendants resorted to manhandling the hospital staff and causing damage to hospital property, which is indeed a regrettable incident he said.

The allegation regarding the non-availability of doctors is baseless, Three doctors were on emergency duty during the time the patient was being treated the Medical Superintendent said.

The hospital authorities condemn the unfortunate incident of violence and assure that an internal investigation will take place to address any shortcomings, if found.

He said GMC Rajouri remains committed to providing quality healthcare services to all patients, and incidents like these should not overshadow the dedicated efforts of the medical staff who strive to save lives on a daily basis. (KS)
