World Migratory Bird Day: Wetlands Division organizes ‘Cleanliness Drives’ & ‘Awareness programmes’ at all RAMSAR sites

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 14: Under ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ campaign, being organized across the country from 2nd to 15th October 2023 and in view of the World Migratory bird day, celebrated every year on 14th of October, Wetlands Division of Wildlife Protection department organized ‘Cleanliness Drives’ and ‘Awareness programmes’ at all RAMSAR sites viz. Hokersar, Shallabugh and Hygam wetland conservation Reserves and also at Pampore wetlands.

Field staff of the division, students of different colleges/schools, Sarpanchs, wildlife Mitras and people living on peripheries of these wetlands participated in the events.

During these cleanliness drives, huge quantities of solid wastes were removed from different spots of all Ramsar sites and the participants pledged to keep these wetlands solid waste free.

Further, during awareness programs students and other stakeholders were acquainted about the importance of wetlands and the flora/ fauna therein.

The main aim of these programmes was to spread the swachhta message to the general public and raise awareness among students/stakeholders about the importance of habitats of migratory birds.
