Hit and Run Case Solved: Accused Arrested by District Police Kulgam

Kulgam, Sep 25 (KS) : District Police Kulgam has successfully solved a hit and run case by apprehending the accused person responsible for the crime.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that on September 22, 2023, at approximately 6:23 AM, an unfortunate accident occurred near the walnut factory in Qazigund. An unidentified truck collided with a Maruti Eeco vehicle bearing registration number JK06B-0901, which was en-route to Banihal. The driver of the truck fled the scene in an attempt to conceal their identity and the truck itself.

The collision resulted in critical injuries to the Maruti Eeco driver and six passengers, who were promptly transported to Emergency Hospital Qazigund and later referred to GMC Anantnag for further treatment.

Tragically, four of the injured individuals succumbed to their injuries.

Subsequently, a case was filed under FIR number 206/2023 at Police Station Qazigund, and an investigation was initiated.

The investigation team, led by SHO Police station Qazigund and under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam, worked diligently to gather evidence from various sources including CCTV footage, toll plazas, and telecom services to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the crime. After relentless efforts, the police team successfully recovered the truck with registration number JK22-7103 and arrested the accused driver identified as Aarif Ahmad Ellahi, son of Ghulam Rasool Ellahi, a resident of Nowgam Verinag, Anantnag.

The investigation into the case is currently ongoing as the authorities continue their efforts to gather further details. (KS)
