Peddler booked under PSA, many others under scanner, DM, SSP reveal in NCORD meeting

DODA, AUGUST 29: District Magistrate Doda, Vishesh Mahajan, along with Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom today convened the Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee meeting in the DC office here. The gathering served as a platform to discuss the progress made on previous directives and to chart a future course of action against drug abuse in the district.

During the meeting, SSP Abdul Qayoom, who is also the convenor of the Committee, provided updates on the district’s efforts to control drug addiction and trafficking.

The DM informed that a notorious drug peddler has recently been booked under the Public Safety Act, and many others, including women are under scanner, and dossiers are being prepared for their preventive detention under PSA.

The Chief Education officer was directed to coordinate with the Revenue, Police, and Excise officials to conduct a major drive of Bhang ( Cannabis ) destruction throughout the district on 5th of September 2023.

A committee headed by ADC, Dr RK Bharti has been constituted to work out the proposal of restricting the availability of psychotropic drugs in some selected drug stores/ medical shops. The committee will report within 15 days, along with specific recommendations. The Rehabilitation centre at Bhaderwah shall be inaugurated on the 1st of September 2023. The DM tasked magistrates and police officers to intensify the checking of Medical Stores and enforce compulsory installation of CCTV cameras and maintenance of proper record of psychotropic drugs in these medical stores. Revenue officials have been given the target of marking entries in the revenue record of those land holders found involved in the Poppy cultivation in the district, within two days.

The SSP impressed upon officers to undertake exhaustive testing of the suspects in the hotbeds using testing kits. He has expressed his satisfaction with recent developments in combating drug abuse in the district and has urged to take the fight against drug menace to its logical conclusion.

He reiterated that 2023 has been dedicated to eradicate drug abuse from the district and encouraged all stakeholders to intensify the mission.

The 14th Narco Coordination meeting in Doda showcased a determined effort by local authorities to combat drug abuse comprehensively and achieve a drug-free district. The meeting was attended by ADC Doda, ADC Bhaderwah, SP Headquarter Doda, GM DIC Doda, ACD Doda, SDMs, SDPOs, Dy. SP Headquarter, DIO Doda, DSWO Doda, ETO Doda, CEO Doda, CMO Doda, CAO Doda, Tehsildars, SHOs, Assistant Drug Controller Doda and other concerned officials.
