KISHTWAR, AUGUST 28: A district Level NCORD Committee meeting was today held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, here.

The meeting was attended by SSP, Khalil Ahmed Poswal; ADC, Inderjeet Singh Parihar; PO-ICDS, Dr Rishi Sharma; SDM Paddar, Arun Kumar Badyal; SDM Chatroo, Showkat Hayat Matoo; DPO, Sunil Bhutyal; Tehsildar HQ, Chander Shekhar Sharma; DSWO, Zubair Ahmed Lone; State Taxes Officer, CMO, CEO Kishtwar, representatives of GDCs besides other members.

The meeting focused on formulating a comprehensive strategy and took periodical review of the implementation of drug de-addiction measures to counter the menace in the District.

At the outset, the DC took a detailed appraisal from concerned members of NCORD Committee regarding the present scenario of drug related occurrences, areas of concern, age group of addicts, hot spots of drug abuse in the District.

The DC took feedback from the members of the Committee who presented the report related to action taken against drug abuse and drug trafficking in the last 2 months.

The meeting also underscored the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders, departments, and committee members. All participants were urged to collaborate effectively to eliminate the menace from the district.

The meeting covered the wide range of hard and soft interventions that different departments such as Health, Municipality, Social Welfare, Police, State Taxes and Excise Department, Civil Administration, and PRIs need to adopt and implement.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of adopting a target-driven approach in this regard. He also emphasised on the formulation and execution of a comprehensive approach to combat the escalating drug menace, which is significantly affecting the entire society, especially the unemployed youth.

The SSP, while speaking in the meeting, informed that a comprehensive strategy is under implementation to attack the problem of drugs from both supply and demand sides which is vital to contain the drug peddling and break the supply chain. He also assured stringent action against the culprits involved in the hazardous trade of drugs.

The School Education Department, District Youth Services and Sports Department, along with the District Employment Department, were directed to collaborate with Addiction Treatment Facility authorities and the Health Department. This partnership aims to guide addicted youth towards a drug-free life through avenues like sports, self employment opportunities, and rehabilitation measures besides.

Enforcement agencies, including Police & Excise etc were instructed to employ technology -based measures for monitoring, containment, and mitigation at Educational institutions, medical stores, and public spaces besides intensifying IEC activities. Additionally, incentivizing successfully de-addicted youths was emphasized.

The meeting evaluated the status of provisionally declared Nasha Mukt Panchayats: Sigdi B1, Chicha, and Filler B. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized ramping up testing in these areas for consistent maintenance. Additionally, the police administration and relevant stakeholders were urged to play an active role in these panchayats.

The DC Kishtwar also highlighted the pivotal role of the De-addiction Centre at the District Hospital to maintain accurate patient records and ensure attentive care and follow-up.
