To show deep commitment towards youth empowerment and fostering strong bonds with citizens, Indian Army organised Kashmir Women Cricket League, a T20 cricket tournament from 19 Aug to 27 Aug 2023. The tournament not only promoted sportsmanship amongst the girls but also enhanced Soldier – Citizen connect.
The tournament was conducted for the Valley where a total of 12 teams from various regions participated. 12 teams played league cum knockout matches from 19 to 25 August and subsequently two teams namely Anantnag Rebels and Budgam Strikers reached the finals. The final match was a nailbiter with Anantnag finally gaining an edge over the opponents.
The Chief Guest for the final match was Shri Manoj Sinha, Honble Lt Gov Jammu and Kashmir. The Final was also witnessed by the Guest Of Honour Ms. Mithali Raj. The winning team Anantnag Rebels and runners up team Budgam Strikers were presented with trophies and handsome cash prizes by the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest applauded the “Nari Shakti” and wished them for their bright future and motivated them to take inspiration from the hardships and achievements of cricket star Ms Mithali Raj.
The final event witnessed the attendance of huge spectators from various segments of the society including youth. The complete tournament and the grand finale were highly appreciated by the citizens as it gave a platform to the girls of the valley to showcase their talent. Efforts of the Indian Army to showcase local sportsmen was applauded by all.
