A seminar on mushroom farming was organised by Indian Army on August 19, 2023, at the Skill Development Centre,Keran village . The event commenced at 1100hrs where in famous scientists and professional in the science, practice, and management of agriculture and agribusiness Dr Firdous Ahmed Raina , Dr Nazir Ahmed Bumla , Dr Aqib Hussian Malik , Ashiq Malik and a team of 20 Scientists from Agriculture University, Srinagar shared their expertise and educated the local population on the cultivation process infrastructure required and supply chain in the subject.
Set in the heart of Kashmir ,Keran is a stunning hamlet attracting people with its fertile soil ,verdant valleys and the Kishanganga River which makes in-house farming a sustainable project .
This not only sets up an avenue of skill development but also paved the path to establish farming as a common practice in this area .
The seminar attended by the Cdr, Offg CO 6 RR and over 250 civilians covered a range of topics related to mushroom farming, including an introduction to the practice, various types of mushrooms, their benefits, and nutritional value. Attendees were imparted information about the fundamental requirements for successful mushroom cultivation, substrate preparation, optimal growing conditions, different growing techniques, harvesting methods, and the yield and production cycle.
Furthermore, the seminar delved into the concept of highlighting eco-friendly practices and their importance. Additionally, the event touched upon government schemes that support mushroom cultivation, providing attendees with valuable insights into potential opportunities for financial assistance.
By attending this seminar, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of mushroom farming, from its basic principles to advanced techniques. Whether attendees were beginners seeking to learn the fundamentals or experienced cultivators looking to enhance their knowledge, this seminar promised to be an enriching and informative experience.
