The people of Sheikhpora Check-Akhal, a far-flung village in Kangan area of Ganderbal district complain about dilapidated condition of the vital road.

The locals told that the only link road that connects the village with the sub-district is in shambles for years. They said that despite repeated requests, the authorities paid no heed to their pleas.

The residents said that during the bad weather, normal life in the village gets paralysed as the muddy road becomes slippery.

In case of medical emergencies amid bad weather, we have to arrange 5 to 6 men who lift the patient on shoulders to the hospital, a local said, adding that this poses a threat to the lives of patients as well as carriers.

They said the road has developed deep potholes on which even pedestrians are not able to walk. The school-going children also face tough times due to the pathetic condition of the road, they added.

A student of the area said that when it rains it causes huge accumulation of water on the roads and creates hurdles for the pedestrians and drivers.

Shahid, a student, said he has several times tweeted about the bad condition of the road and tagged the district administration but to no avail.

Meanwhile, DDC Kangan Tasmeena Adil Kapra told KNO that she recently visited the Chakh-Akhal area during which she engaged with the locals, listened to their concerns, and promptly allocated Rs 5 lakh for immediate construction of the road
