Baramulla, Samba, Poonch qualifies for the High Stature event
The Department of Youth Services and Sports hosted and organized Inter-District UT Level matches of the Subroto Cup for both girls and boys on Wednesday at Gindun Sports Complex here. Waseem Raja Joint Director Kashmir of the Department of Youth Services & Sports J&K after declaring the competitions open, welcomed both the host and guest teams. He hoped that the important Cup would provide ample opportunities for budding football enthusiasts to showcase their sporting talent while enhancing their game and skill. While throwing light on the importance and background of the highly statured Cup, Raja said that it is the oldest national school football tournament in India and was instituted to promote and encourage the sport at the grassroots level in the country. Students from different countries across Asia participate in this tournament, making it one of the more noteworthy school-level football competitions. The International Football Tournament is a prestigious international inter-school football tournament that is held annually in New Delhi, India.
An ANTI-DRUG Awareness oath was administered during the impressive inaugural ceremony of the Tournament. All the required facilities pertaining to first aid and boarding/ lodging were put in place for the successful organization of the Cup. In the three scheduled matches, the U/14 Girls Team of Poonch defeated Srinagar through Penalty Shoot-outs. Similarly, Poonch scored 2 against Srinagar’s 1 goal. In another scheduled match, Baramulla scored 8 goals and won the match against their opponent Jammu who could score just a single goal.
In the 3 match, Anantnag won the match against the District team of Samba by 3-0. Matches were played for U/14 U/17 boys and U/17 Girls categories.
