The official said that all the necessary arrangements are being finalized in this regard and instructions have been passed to police and other establishments.

Pertinently, after a 34-year ban, thousands of Shia mourners were allowed on Thursday to take out the 8th Muharram procession through the traditional Guru Bazaar-Dalgate route. Thursday’s procession was held for the first time in 34 years after the authorities in Kashmir banned it in 1989.

Remembering the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the government respects the sentiment of the Shia community.

An official spokesman in a statement quoted the LG as saying: “I bow to the martyrs of Karbala and recall sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his ideals.”

Muharram is one of Islam’s holiest months when Shias across the world take out processions to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), who was martyred in 680 CE at the Battle of Karbala in the present-day Iraq.
