Deputy Commisioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan (IAS) Thursday morning visited Khumryal to take on- the spot assesment of restoration work on Khumryal bridge which is being undertaken by R& B Division Kupwara.
A wing wall of Khumryal bridge which connects Lolab Sub Division with District Headquarters Kupwara, was damaged by flash floods triggered in Nallah Kalaroos on the intervening night of July 26, 27 due to cloudbursts and heavy rains.
The Deputy Commisioner directed R&B Sub Division Kupwara to restore this important bridge on war footing basis so that residents and commuters don’t face problems.
To avoid any eventuality, Single-Lane traffic is being allowed over the bridge and water is being diverted to other corner of the nallah so that that further damage to the wing wall of the bridge is avoided.
Several JCBs are used for diversion of water and a Rock breaker is being used to crush the damaged wing wall and other rocks.
Meanwhile the Deputy Commisioner Kupwara, has directed the Geology & Mining department to ban mining in 500 Metre upside and downside area of all bridges in different Nallahs of the district so that bridges are saved from the damge during flash floods.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas, other Officers and Engineers of R & B Department.
Meanwhile PMGSY department Kupwara has restored the roads of the Kalaroos and it’s adjoining areas which were blocked by flash floods.
