Public support and vigilant parental care, way forward on Fight against drugs: DC

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb today presided over a mega function organized by District Social Welfare Department Shopian to observe International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking.

Addressing a mega awareness programme held at Auditorium Hall of IMGDC Shopian, the DC highlighted the importance of celebrating the day and added that the day is observed to cement the cooperation in achieving the goal of drug free community.

He also highlighted the importance of the vigilant and careful role of parents to keep their children away from drugs saying that it is a collective responsibility of all to eradicate this menace from society.

The DC appealed to the gathering to report cases to authorities for rehabilitation without attaching its social stigma.

He highlighted the measures and initiatives going on to curb and eliminate drug menace in Shopian.

Dy. SP Shopian and students also shared their valuable suggestions and experiences during this awareness session.

Moreover to celebrate the day, a rally was organized by IMGDC to raise awareness about drug abuse which was attended by students of the college and officials. Painting and debate competitions were also held on the occasion by the department.

In the felicitation ceremony, trophies and medals were distributed among the winners and participants of debate and painting competition.

Programme was also attended by Principal Government IMGDC Shopian, Faculty Members, Tehsildar Shopian, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer and other officers besides a large number of students and staff members.
