More than 2.5 Lac participate in Yoga Display Programmes organised by Sports department: chibar
The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K organised Yoga practising sessions for it’s employees, young students, senior citizens and people from different fields of life in all the 20 districts of the Union Territory to celebrate International Yoga Day (IYD) 2023.
Renowned Bollywood Film Maker Imtiyaz Ali along with J&K Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Secretary to Government Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K Sarmad Hafeez, Director Department of YS&S Shubash C. Chhibber, Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gull, Additional Secretary to Government YS&S Waseem Raja, Joint Director Kashmir YS&S Waseem Raja and hundreds of yoga enthusiasts participated in a mega Yoga Display event organised jointly by Department of Youth Services And Sports J&K and J&K Sports Council at TRC’s Synthetic Football Turf.
While giving details about the participation in the activities organised in connection with the important day, Director YS&S Subash C. Chhibber said that 254469 yoga practitioners which include 146338 from Kashmir division and 108131 from Jammu division participated in the programmes organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in all the 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir.  He appreciated the field staff of the Department for putting in all possible efforts in arranging these programmes very professionally. He paid his gratitude to all the participants for making this event a grand success with their great interest in the Yog.
Meanwhile, Waseem Raja Joint Director Kashmir of YS&S has said that it’s very encouraging to see an upward trend in participation figures in comparison to the last few years. Previous year 80060 persons took part in the programmes organised on IYD and this year we have seen an upward flip of 82% approximately.
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
