Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, on Saturday visited Kupwara district during which he carried series of activities and reviewed development scenario of the district

Dr. Samoon, who is also Mentor Secretary for Kupwara district, paid a visit to Government Polytechnic College Karihama, Kupwara, and flagged off bus procured for students of the college.

 

During the visit, Dr. Samoon laid foundation stone for Lift Water Supply Scheme at Karihama Kupwara in presence of DDC member Drugmulla, Advocate Amina Majeed and ADC Kupwara, Ghulam Nabi Bhat. The scheme is being constructed under JJM through Jal shakti division Kupwara with an estimated cost of Rs 607.91 lakh which will benefit 9177 souls of the area.

 

He inspected 10 MVA receiving station at Galizoo Kupwara constructed by Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation under Prime Minister’s development package (PMDP-U) with a cost of Rs 538 Lakh

 

Dr. Samoon also inspected the sports stadium at Galizoo Kupwara. He directed the District Youth Service and Sports officer Kupwara to ensure that regular cricket tournaments are organized here.

 

Principal secretary inspected progress on work being executed on Indoor Sports stadium at Galizoo. He directed the executing agency to speed up the pace of progress on the work for timely completion.

 

He also visited ITI Kupwara where he felicitated the pass out students and trainees of women self help groups and officials of Jal shakti department who have completed up-skill courses.

 

Dr. Samoon, while addressing the students at ITI Kupwara, said that interested pass out trainees should take admission in 3 year diploma courses in government Polytechnic colleges of Kupwara district where there is provision of scholarship and other incentives for female students.

 

Principal Secretary instructed the district administration Kupwara to identify a 200 kanal patch of land at Karihama or any other suitable place for construction of additional blocks of Government ITI Kupwara with hostel facility for the students.

 

Earlier, Principal Secretary attended the final of volleyball tournament at Government Higher Secondary School Karihama as chief guest.

 

A total of 13 teams comprising 156 players from across the district participated in the tournament.

 

The final of the tournament was played between youth club Zone Vilgam and Youth club zone Handwara and was won by the later.

 

Principal Secretary distributed prizes and trophies among the winners, runner ups and other participants.

 

He, later, took a detailed review meeting with the HODs, district and sectoral officers to review progress on district Capex, CSSs and other sectors.

 

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray, briefed the Principal Secretary about the developmental scenario of the district including District CAPEX Budget, Centrally Sponsored Schemes, and other sectors.

 

Dr. Samoon said that Kupwara district is marching fast towards development and prosperity. He emphasized the need to boost tourism potential, Handicrafts, Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry sectors having huge potential and scope in the district.

 

Earlier, DDC Member Drugmulla projected the demand of macadamization and expansion of road to Government Polytechnic college Karihama, Kupwara.
