TANGDHAR, KARNAH,5 May: One Earth, One Home, One Future is the theme of G-20 under the Indian Presidency. In this regard, The NSS Unit in-collaboration with The Debates and Seminars Committee of GDC Tangdhar, organised several activities from last one week. These events were held with a view to sanitize the student community in particular and the public in general about the ill effects of environmental pollution. In continuation of a series of activities, our college (GDC Tangdhar) today, on 5th of June 2023, organised a Speech competition on the Theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. It is pertinent to mention here that World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise Global awareness to take positive and substantial action to save nature and the Mother Earth. Therefore, this event was held to remind everyone on planet to get involved in Environment friendly activities. The worthy Principal of the College, Prof. Haroon Rashid Boked gave a speech on what role Environment plays and why it is important for people to take initiatives to save the Environment. The competition was held to encourage young and dynamic minds of the college to raise their voice on the important issue of climate change. Although, a great number of students took part in this competition and articulated their hearts, yet it was Rashid Iqbal of 4th Semester bagged the 1st position, while Sheikh Rafia of 2nd Semester followed him for the 2nd position. The third position was awarded to Gazala Mashkoor of 2nd semester. The cash prises were awarded to the orators selected by the judging panel based on style, clarity, and conviction of thought and lucidity of articulation.   An essay competition on “Environmental Implications of Single Use of Plastic” was held as a part of “World Environmental Day” on 2nd of June 2023. Although, a great number of students participated in this competition, yet of all the essays received, only a few relay lived up to the expectations of the Judges. The 1st position was one by Faizan Maqsood of 4th semester while Shahzaib Geelani of 2nd semester followed him for 2nd position. Ubaid-Ul-Rehman of 2nd semester was given the 3rd position.  World Bicycle Day was celebrated on 3rd June 2023 under the guidance of Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad. The main purpose of this event was to promote the use of Bicycle as a means of transport to save the earth from global warming. Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad, talking on this occasion stressed that bicycle is the most economical and eco-friendly means of transportation. On 3rd of June, our college also organised a cleanliness drive of the polluted “BATAMOJI” Stream. The primary aim of this drive in which almost 40 students participated was to inspire people to take up revamping and conservation of the water resource to curve its slow death due to pollution. The Worthy Principal of the college, Prof. Haroon Rashid Boked, on these occasions was all praises for the top positions and he expressed his happiness over the fact that the students of the college take keen interest in such events. He specially thanked Prof. Ajaz Ahmad Padroo, Convenor Debaters and Seminars committee for anchoring these events success.
