World Bicycle Day: DC Kupwara flags-off bicycle rally

Peerzada Sayeed  Kupwara, June 3: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray Saturday flagged off a bicycle rally from the DC Office Complex,(District Headquarters Kupwara) here to mark the celebration of ‘World Bicycle Day’.  DC Kupwara flagged-off the bicycle rally at 7:15 AM from DC office Complex which proceeded via Helpal, Mougalpora, Gushi and finally reached Government Degree College (Boys) Kupwara. The rally was held on 3rd June on the occasion of “world Bicycle Day, under the theme “Cycle for Health” to promote physical and mental well being through Eco-friendly conveyance. A large number of students from various schools participated enthusiastically in the Bicycle rally which was organized by district administration Kupwara. Speaking at the ocasion Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray  congratulated the students on World Bicycle Day and highlighted the importance of physical activities like, running, walking, cycling and exercise. DC said that health benefits of Physical activity not only contribute to lowering risk of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, cancer etc. but also have positive effects on mental health, delay the onset of dementia, and also promote well-being. “Cycling  is a wonderful sports activity and an excellent  means of transport which is pollution free and without fuel” DC said adding that ” The revival of cycling is the need of the hour. Bicycle Rally envisages popularizing the usage of cycle to solve the dual issues of pollution and unhealthy lifestyle”. CEO Kupwara, CMO Kupwara, District Youth Service & sports officer, and other concerned were present at the occasion. Similar Cycle rally events were held at Block headquarters and Health and Wellness centres in the district.
