The Group of Twenty Nations, commonly known as the G20 is a premier forum for international economic cooperation. G 20 is Comprised of 19 countries and the European Union and it represents more than 85% of the global GDP and two-thirds of the world’s population. While the G20 Summit is the most visible aspect of this forum, it is pertinent to mention the vital role played by the Sherpa Track G20 in shaping the agenda and paving the way for global cooperation. As the world is facing complex challenges, International cooperation and collaboration becomes crucial for addressing global issues.  One such platform that pleased an important role in fostering global dialogue and international cooperation is the group of Twenty Nations (G 20). Within the G 20, the Sherpa track forms the backbone of the organization. Sherpa track plays an important role in shaping policy discussions and facilitating consensus among member nations. The term “Sherpa” derives from the role Sherpas play in guiding mountaineers to the summit of Mount Everest, reflecting their vital contribution to reaching a successful outcome. The G 20 Sherpa track refers to a group of individuals who are designated as “Sherpas”. The Sherpas are responsible for preparing and coordinating discussions among G20 leaders. Sherpas act as the personal representatives of the government of each G 20 member nation.  Sherpas are high level officials who have deep expertise in international relations, economics, and policy-making. The Sherpas play an important role in the G20 process by undertaking preparatory work, conducting negotiations among member nations, and building consensus on various issues before they are discussed at the annual G20 Summit.  They act as the primary point of contact between their respective governments and the G20 framework. All the Sherpas work together to prepare the G 20 agenda. It is ensured that the agenda reflects the priorities and concerns of member nations. The key areas of focus are economic growth, financial stability, trade, climate change, sustainable development, and social inclusion. Sherpas of member nations engage in intense negotiations to reach consensus on important issues. In order to achieve this they carry out multiple rounds of meetings and consultations. They exchange views, share experiences, and explore potential solutions which are aimed to bridge differences and find common ground among member nations. Sherpas provide policy recommendations to their respective government leaders based on expert advice and consensus reached during the negotiations with member nations. The aim of the recommendations is to address global challenges and promote sustainable and inclusive growth. Sherpas of all member nations engage with various stakeholders, international organizations, business leaders, civil society organizations, and think tanks to gather diverse perspectives and inputs. This engagement enhances the inclusivity and effectiveness of the G20 process and more suitable solutions are found for common problems. Sherpas also play an important role in monitoring the implementation of commitments made by G 20 leaders and ensuring accountability towards common cause. The Sherpa track holds great significance in the G20 process for several reasons. The Sherpa track enables extensive dialogue and negotiations among member nations which fosters consensus and understanding on complex global issues. It acts as a diplomatic medium for bridging divergent views and interests which leads to more effective policy outcomes. As the Sherpas are most knowledgeable in their respective fields, they equip the G20 leaders with well-informed and comprehensive recommendations. This ensures that G20 leaders can make informed decisions during the annual G20 Summit. Sherpas make sure that the push towards achieving common goals is continued because political leaders may change over time. Sherpas ensure that discussions, commitments, and policy objectives are carried forward to new leaders of G 20 maintaining consistency and coherence in the G20’s work. Without any doubt Sherpa Track is the most important facet of G 20 Summits. Sherpas work to ensure that the voices of all G20 members are heard and taken into account during the negotiations. In addition to economic issues, the Sherpas also tackle pressing global challenges, including climate change, energy sustainability, digitalization, and inequality. The outcomes of Sherpa Track G20 directly influence the discussions and decisions at the G20 Summit. In conclusion, Sherpa Track G20 plays a vital role in the G20 process. It serves as the engine that drives global cooperation.
