8 gamblers held in Kulgam, stake money seized: Police

Kulgam,01-Apr, Acting tough against social crimes, Police on Saturday have arrested eight gamblers and seized stake money from their possession in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A Police Spokesperson said that acting on specific information about gambling activities in the juridiction of Police Post Mir bazar, A Police party headed by IC PP Mir bazar raided a suspected gambling site at Palpora and apprehended eight gamblers on spot.

They have been identified as Mohd Yousuf Malla resident of Kawaki Bazar Qaimoh, Nasir Ahmad Ganie, Umar Hammid Wani both resident of Furrah, Mudasir Ahmad Rather resident of Waghama Bijebhara, Bilal Ahmad Mir, Nisar Ahmad Khanday both residents of Bumthan, Nisar Ahmad Mir of Zadoora and Tariq Ahmad Matoo Sresident of Gangipora.

From the spot stake money of Rs 50000, 08 mobile phones and a set of playing cards were recovered.

Taking cognizance into the matter all the gamblers were booked and regarding the incident case FIR No. 55/2023 U/S 13 of Gambling Act stands registered in Police station Qazigund. Further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Meanwhile, People of the area have appreciated the role of police for being prompt against such social evils. Persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt strictly as per law.
