” Youth clubs to play a pivotal role in curbing drug menace, creating awareness about welfare schemes”
Sumbal, March 20: The District administration Bandipora on Monday organised mega Youth interaction programme in Dak Bunglow Sumbal.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr.Owais Ahmad was the Chief guest on the occassion while Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora Lakshy Sharma , DPO ICDS Bandipora Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Tehsildar Sumbal Zeeshan Tahir, ACP Bandipora Muzaffar Ahhmad, SDPO Sumbal Mir Abid, Project Manager DIC Bandipora Mehraj Wani were present on the occasion.
The programme was attended by a large number of youth including students and members of youth club.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC Bandipora stressed on Parental Care, Motivation, proper exposure to career opportunities for excelling in different fields for students.
He said that district administration is always looking forward for the guidance and successful future of the students
While interacting with the youngsters, Dr Owais said the career counselling sessions on regular basis act as boon for the youth who are in career deciding years and these programme will continue to be organised for the betterment of the youth.
He said the district administration has launched several programs for the overall development of the next generation Including better Education facilities, promotion of sports activities, guidance and career counselling and the hand holding for earning livelihood by facilitating to establish own income generation units. He said such initiatives will continue and urged the youth to avail benefit of these schemes to stand on their own feet.
While educating the youth, Deputy Commissioner stated that drug abuse is a serious problem that affects not only individuals but also families and communities. He emphasised the importance of tackling the issue from multiple perspectives including deterrence, treatment and enforcement.
The DC reiterated that District Administration Bandipora is committed to creating a drug-free environment in the district and will continue to take all necessary steps to achieve this goal.
He said drug addiction is treatable and various measures have been taken for treatment and rehabilitation of addicts. He said the administration recently started a Drug De Addiction centre at Old Hospital complex Bandipora and urged the parents to keep watch on their kids so that they aren’t trapped in wrong company.
He emphasised the importance of creating awareness and spreading knowledge on these topics to prevent drug abuse and promote sustainable livelihood adding that the government is committed to their hand-holding under Mission Youth Programme.
He said the programme aimed to educate youth about self-employment opportunities available through different livelihood generating schemes rolled out by the government for aspiring youth besides educating individuals particularly youth about associated dangers of drug abuse.
Later while talking to reporters, Dr Owais said he had a healthy discussion with the youth who talked about various issues including career counselling, drug menace, skill development and development works.
He said during the discussion several valuable suggestions come up from the youth that will be incorporated in future plans for development. He said youth also wished to get trainning in new job oriented skills and he assured them to start those programmes soon.
He said the local youth clubs in panchayats will play a pivotal role in creating awareness regarding different government programmes including welfare schemes and job oriented schemes.
SSP Bandipora on the occasion stressed on involving youth in to sports activities so that they can remain away from drug abuse.
Highlighting the ill effects of drugs, the SSP Bandipora emphasised upon complete eradication of harmful drugs from the society as it starts merely as amusement but at the end ruins innocent lives.
He urged youth to come forward and help police to eradicate this drug menace from the society.
Project officer District Industries Mehraj Wani spoke about government schemes and initiatives to provide job opportunities while Tehsildar Sumbal Zeeshaan Tahir discussed career opportunities, qualifying prestigious exams, civil service, Psc and UPSC level.
Dr. Nazir Ahmed BDO Hajin and Mir Dawar Habib BDO sumbal, young JKAS officers also spoke on the various career opportunities and shared their strategies adopted during preparation periods with the aspirants .
Dr Raleem from medical block sumbal spoke about career opportunities in medical sector and health care.
