Kashmir, a picturesque valley nestled in the Himalayas, has been a troubled region for a long time due to its geopolitical significance. The region has witnessed several conflicts, including wars, insurgencies and cross-border terrorism, leading to a protracted state of violence and instability. The violence has resulted in thousands of deaths, displacement and human rights abuses, leaving the locals in a state of constant fear and uncertainty. However, in recent times, the Indian government and Security Force concerted efforts have yielded positive results and normalcy has gradually paved its way back in daily life of Kashmiri people. The initiatives instituted by Indian Government have proved to be instrumental in addressing the core issues in the valley, which are the need of the hour. The abrogation of Article 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, has opened doors towards integration of the valley with the rest of the country. This has provided a sense of empowerment to the people of the valley and has made them feel like an integral part of the country.
In addition, the government has initiated several developmental projects in the valley, including infrastructure development, job creation and flourishing tourism. These initiatives have provided a much-needed boost to the local economy and have given the Kashmiri people hope for a better future. The most significant achievement of the government machinery and Security Force has been the successful conduct of DDC elections in the valley in year 2020. The conduct of the elections was a major challenge, considering the complex security situation in valley. However, the cumulative efforts of the security forces ensured a secure environment for the elections, which proved to be highly successful. The elections were conducted smoothly without any major setback. The Security Force has time & again played a significant role in bringing back normalcy to daily life in Kashmir. The army in conjunction with other security forces have been able to restore law and order in the valley, ensuring the safety and security of the locals. The army’s concerted efforts to root out terrorism from the valley have been successful and lauded by all sections of society. The army has also been involved in several developmental initiatives in the valley, including the construction of roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
One of the most heartening signs of the return of normalcy in the valley is the resumption of tourism and influx of tourists throughout the year. The valley, which was once a popular tourist destination, had seen a significant decline in tourist footfall owing to various acts of violence and unrest by trouble makers. However, with the return of peace and stability, tourists have started to flock the valley once again which is a positive indicator towards peace and harmony. The year 2022 witnessed a significant hike in tourists which came to enjoy the Heaven on Earth i.e., Kashmir. All this was possible due to the constant efforts of Indian Government and Security Force which ensured a safe and secure environment in the state through positive measures as also boosted the trust in local populace. The local people have also shown a willingness to move on from the past and work towards a better future. Many locals have started small businesses and the entrepreneurial spirit in the valley has also received a much-needed boost.
The efforts of the government of India and Security Force have borne fruit and normalcy has gradually returned back to daily lives of Kashmiri Awam. While there is still work to be done, the signs are encouraging and the people of the valley can finally hope for a better future. It is now up to all the stakeholders to continue this momentum and ensure that the valley remains peaceful and prosperous for years to come.
