KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 02: A One day training-cum-awareness on commercial Floriculture programme was today organised by the Floriculture Department Kishtwar at Seri Bhaderwah for Farmers of the home District.  A Large number of farmers from Bonjwah, Trigam, Drabshalla, Chatroo, Kishtwar attended this training programme held under CSS, MIDH.  Assistant Floriculture officer Doda/Kishtwar Pawan Kumar educated the farmers about cultivation of Marigold, lavender plantation, protected cultivation of High value cut flowers and establishment of lavender nurseries to get more returns than traditional farming.  He said that in district Doda farmers are cultivating Marigold every year and earning handsome money.   “A large number of families have adopted Lavender cultivation and are earning much more as compared to the traditional crops like maize, wheat etc. After adopting lavender and marigold cultivation on a commercial scale their income has quadrupled,” he added.  He said the Department of Floriculture besides imparting scientific know-how also provides incentives to the farmers under centrally sponsored schemes.  Farmers were taken to the Lavender fields and Lavender nurseries and imparted practical technical know-how by the Assistant Floriculture officer for raising hybrid Marigold Seedlings, raising lavender planting material through cuttings.  The farmers of District Kishtwar thanked the Floriculture Department for organising this training session for them wherein they got practical knowledge.  At last Shabir Ahmed and Khurshid Bathak I/Cs CSS of Floriculture Department presented vote of thanks.
