JANUARY 18: Deputy Commissioner, Ramban Mussarat Islam today administered a pledge to the District and Sectoral officers for promotion of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ as a part of ongoing week-long BBBP campaign organized by the Social Welfare Department at District Administrative Complex.   The DC also launched a signature campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to strengthen the BBBP campaign across the district.  Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal, CPO, Dr. Kasturi Lal, ACD, Ashok Singh, DSWO, Rahul Gupta and other senior officers were present on the occasion.  Highlighting the importance of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, the Deputy Commissioner asked the participants to encourage the people to educate girl children, care for their good health and ensure social and economic uplift of women.   ”The objective of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is to make people aware about the importance of girl child in the society, besides bringing about an attitudinal change among the people towards them” he said. He further said “All the citizens act in all possible ways individually and collectively to eliminate gender biased discrimination and sex selection that threaten the birth and survival of girls.”  He called for felicitating local women who have excelled in different fields and make them a part of the awareness campaign. He also called for inter-departmental coordination to create maximum impact of the campaign across the district.  Meanwhile, the DSWO informed that during the ongoing week-long campaign starting from January 17 a series of activities are being held across the district. He said that hoardings displaying the Help Line Contact Numbers for seeking emergency help for girls, women, children, senior citizens, specially-abled and for targeting drug peddlers have  been installed at various prominent locations.
