JAMMU: Responding to a distress call, Army rescued a pregnant woman amidst inclement weather from a snowbound Mangat area of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir, an army spokesperson said on Monday.  PRO Defence Jammu, Lt Col Devender Anand said, “Army received a distress call from the family members of village Hargam of Khari Tehsil in Ramban district, requesting for urgent medical evacuation of a pregnant lady who was in critical condition.”  “Due to heavy snowfall, roads were completely blocked and very slippery,” he said.  Col Anand said, “Realising the criticality of the situation, rescue and medical teams of Indian Army immediately responded to the distress call, risking their own safety.”  Six-hour-long evacuation on stretchers amidst inclement weather through snow covered stretches, Col Anand said, adding, “Indian Army doctor accompanied the lady till Sub District Hospital (SDH), Banihal.”  “The soldiers had to make their own way in 4-6 feet high snow and carried the pregnant lady on a stretcher for 14 Km till Agnari village where an Ambulance of the Indian Army was on standby to receive the patient,” Col Anand added.  The Defence Spokesperson said, “The pregnant lady was carefully and safely evacuated to Sub District Hospital (SDH), Banihal.”  “The family and doctors expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army for their swift action and timely assistance saving precious lives, ” Col Anand added.
