ANANTNAG, JANUARY 13: Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Anantnag in collaboration with  Govt Degree College Anantnag today  organized a one day Seminar on Road Safety, here.  The seminar was attended by students, volunteers and commercial drivers.  The thrust of the seminar was to sensitize the youth about the use and utility of safety gadgets and the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulations while being on roads.  Addressing  the gathering,  Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Anantnag, Dr  Mohammad Zubair Lattoo highlighted the importance of following the 10 Golden Rules.  In his Power Point presentation, ARTO Anantnag stated that during 2021 year as per MoRTH  1,53,972 persons were killed and 384448 were injured in road traffic crashes in India. This is a disturbing statistic and calls for a serious intervention by policy-planners, media and civil society to create continued awareness on road safety norms and regulations,” he said.  Dr Zubair elaborated the underlying causes of road accidents such as driving without seat belts and helmets, use of cell phones, over speeding and drunk driving.  He said that the purpose of organizing  such programmes is  to disseminate a message of saving life of their own and others while being on roads and to make them law-abiding citizens of the society and to save precious lives of the people which are being lost due to traffic accidents.
