GoC 16 Corps reviews preparedness for winter months

Jammu, Dec 27 : Day after security forces averted a major tragedy by recovering an improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 16 Corps Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain Tuesday reviewed the security situation in the hinterland.  Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, GOC of Nagrota 16 Corps (White Knight Corps) visited Counter Insurgency Force (Delta), headquarters in Ramban sector and carried out a comprehensive security review.

Sources said Corps commander, who took over the command recently, reviewed the operational preparedness of the units as well as preparedness for onset of winters and snowfall.  The field commanders briefed the Corps commander on the situation and army’s readiness for winters and snow spell.  The Corps commander also discussed the stock and stores position and were informed that ample amounts of goods have been stocked for the forces for winter months.

“The commanders on ground also briefed the corps commander regarding various actions being undertaken by the Force to ensure peace and stability in the region,” sources said, adding that “He commended all ranks for their unwavering dedication to duty, selfless devotion and high standards of professionalism, and exhorted all ranks on the need to remain vigilant to counter the anti-national elements.”  Earlier, security forces defused an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 15 kilograms which was recovered in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said.  A major terror plan was averted when the cylindrical shaped IED, 300-400 grams of RDX, seven 7.62 mm cartridges and five detonators were recovered in Basantgarh area on Monday, they said. The IED was safely defused on Tuesday, the officials said.

One coded sheet and one letter pad page of banned organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were also recovered, they said, adding that a suspect has been detained.  According to the officials, a case has been registered at Basantgarh police station and further investigation is underway—(Agencies)
