To celebrate the historic Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, a Kargil Victory Flame (Torch) is being traversed through the Kashmir valley to complete a journey of 400 KM in 40 days approximately. The flame, which is scheduled to arrive at the Kargil War Memorial on 26 July 2022, was received at Shalateng Garrison by Brig Nitin Negi, Station Commander on 04 July 2022. The event was solemnly observed by all present including the Army Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Ex Servicemen and Families of the Shalateng Garrison remembering & positive tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the protection of our motherland. ​
The Victory Flame was escorted by serving Army Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks, Ex Servicemen, School Children and Teachers of Army Goodwill School Hanzik, in a Victory March.
The Victory Flame was taken to the Shalateng War Memorial for a Guard of Honor and Wreath Laying ceremony, where General Officer Commanding, Headquarter Counter Insurgency Force(Kilo), Station Commander, Veteran & Students laid wreath and paid their sincere tributes to the Kargil Heroes.
Post the Wreath laying ceremony, the Flame was handed over to Commanding Officer 2 Rashtriya Rifles for its forward journey to the Kargil War Memorial.
