D&FCO Jammu holds series of events to mark Int’l Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking

JAMMU, JUNE 24: In its endeavour to make Jammu City free from Drug Abuse, Drugs & Food Control Organisation, Jammu on Friday organised an awareness programme to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The objective of the awareness programme was to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a role model society free of Drug Abuse.

A symposium and rally was organized in the Jammu city to create awareness against this social evil. Top brass of the Divisional Administration, Officers of Drugs & Food Control Organisation along with prominent citizens, representatives of NGO’s, College students, students from para medical colleges and Trade Associations participated in the rally that was taken out from Mahajan Central Sabha, Shalamar and after passing through different bazaars and prominent Chowks culminated back at Shalamar Chowk.

The rally was flagged Off by Chief Guest of the event, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Lotika Khajuria, State Drugs Controller, J&K in presence of Saleem -ur-Rehman, Director, Health Services, Jammu; Dr Manu Arora, HOD ,Psych, GMC, Jammu ; Dr Gurmeet Kour, Nodal Officer, Mental Health Diseases; Poornima Kaboo, DDC( I&L),Jammu; Farida Parveen, DDC( Jammu);   Sanjeev Gupta, Dy Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu; Mohammad Iqbal Kathua/Samba), Drug Control Officers of Jammu Province, Police Officers of JKP , Sh Rohit Sharma, Convener, JKCDA; S. Gurmeet Singh, O. Sec., JKCDA; Naveen Bali, President, JCA, Rajinder Parshad, Vice President JCA, Prem Sharma, General Secretary , JCA, Sh Anil Gupta, Convener, JCA, R.S Pura /Bishnah/Akhnoor Chemists Association, Keshav Chopra, Chairman, Samvedhna Society, Representatives & Students of Baba Ghulam Shah College of Nursing, B.R College of Nursing; SRML, Higher Secondary School; Centre Basic School, Jammu; AMT School, Bakshi Nagar; Hari Singh School, Jammu.

Participants were holding colourful banners and placards in their hands with messages against substance abuse and raised Slogans against the social evil and pledged to join their hands to eradicate this menace from Society.

The Divisional Commissioner Jammu, while addressing the participants, appealed to the general public to join hands in fighting the abuse of drug & related substances and eliminate this social evil from the society to make India a Healthy nation.

The State Drugs Controller, J&K sought urgent attention of Stakeholders towards the issue and informed that the Government has initiated pro active measures in this behalf by constituting Divisional Level Monitoring Committee to bring an end to this menace and rehabilitate the affected youth. Similar messages and slogans were delivered by Dr Shakeel-ur Rehman, DHS, Jammu, Dr Manu Arora, Dr Gurmeet Kour, Mohammad Iqbal Palla, etc.

The speakers emphasised the need for a coordinated effort in fighting this menace. They appealed to the public in general and students in particular to come forward and become Role Models/Ambassadors to propagate the awareness and the information to fight out this social evil from our Society for a progressive Nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Iqbal Pall, ADC (Jammu) informed that a similar programme has been scheduled in the Holy City of Katra tomorrow to propagate the message against Drug Abuse.
