Baramulla, June 14: As part of Union Government’s special outreach Programme to get first hand appraisal of various developmental parameters, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Youth Affairs and Sports, Nisith Pramanik today paid visit to Mirgund Pattan where he inaugurated Indoor Sports Stadium constructed at an estimated cost of of Rs. 3.3 Crore. He also participated in various activities meant for the overall welfare and socio-economic development of the district.

After inaugurating the Indoor Sports Stadium, Various sports activities were held wherein the young and enthusiastic players showed their talent.

On the occasion, the Minister applauded the young and energetic players for showing their enthusiastic participation. He termed sports as a viable platform for channelising potential of dynamic youth besides keeping them away for wrong pursuits like drug addiction, anti social activities etc.

While emphasizing upon the youth to come forward, the Minister said that several novel measures are being taken as part of youth engagement programme which aims to empower them and direct them towards productive pursuits. He appreciated the efforts of local administration for organising such sports events and assured every support on the part of Union Government.

Later, the Minister visited Dak Bungalow Baramulla where he chaired a meeting of all district and sectoral officers to review the overall developmental scenario and to get the first hand appraisal of various issues.

On the occasion, the Deptuty Commissioner Baramulla, Syed Sehrish Asgar presented a brief profile of the district through a power point presentation. She highlighted economic, social and cultural aspects of the district.

On the occasion, all the departments presented the status of various developmental works undertaken in various sectors viz health, education, rural development, PDD etc by the concerned agencies.

After taking a sector wise review of various major developmental works, the Minister emphasized for adopting a coordinated approach for achieving the desired results.

He stressed to ramp up the pace of work so that all the undertaken projects are completed well within the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, the Minister also convened an interactive session with DDC and BDC members to get first hand appraisal of their development issues and concerns.

DDC members highlighted several grievances and demands and sought their timely redressal in order to accomplish the goal of development at grass root level.

On the occasion, Chairperson District Development Council Baramulla, Safeena Beigh highlighted several issues having development significance. She sought personal intervention of the Union Minister for fulfilling their developmental aspirations.

She also put forth several demands including establishment of sports university in Baramulla, Development of sports stadiums and play fields besides proper Security cover to PRI members.

The Minister gave a patient hearing to all the demands of all PRIs and assured that all the developmental concerns of PRIs shall be fulfilled so that the vision of democratic decentralisation is realised. He added that public welfare has been the top most priority of the present government.

The Minister on the occasion said that the Union Government has a dream for development of Jammu and Kashmir, and added that the Government is working on various flagship programmes aimed to develop the socio economic status of the people.

Chairperson District Development Council Baramulla Safeena Beigh, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, all district and sectoral officers besides DDC members, BDC Chairpersons, MC President Baramulla were present on the occasion.
