SRINAGAR, APRIL 17: In view of the ongoing Iconic Week Celebrations as a part of Gram Swaraj Month, a number of activities were held in all the blocks of District Srinagar viz Khonmoh, Srinagar, Qamarwari and Harwan with focus on various thematic areas like “Clean and Green Villages”, “Water Sufficient Villages”, Healthy Villages, etc.
The activities were conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad by the concerned Block Development Officers with active participation of public representatives, some local groups and general public.
Under Child Friendly Villages, visit of schools was undertaken wherein thrust was laid on active participation of children in extra curricular activities besides their normal routine, inspection of kitchens was undertaken to ensure that children are given hot cooked meals while taking care of their daily nutritional requirements.
Besides this various competitions were organized to lay thrust on physical activities among children which has become all the more important after the sedentary lifestyle during covid lockdowns.
It was also ensured that there is a holistic development of villages especially with regard to cleanliness, sufficient and clean water supply through the Gram Sabhas conducted at various locations.
During the programmes, the grievances of the locals were heard by the officials and steps were initiated to resolve them.
Besides this, various plantation drives were undertaken to increase the green cover of villages while taking small steps towards achieving carbon neutral villages which is one of the most important goals of SDG’s.
Activities were also undertaken with respect to Healthy villages wherein Panchayat Secretaries spread awareness in their Halqas along with Asha and Anganwadi workers about clean and healthy habits. Under this a visit of nearby PHCs, Dispensaries was taken to ensure that the patients are getting all the basic facilities without having the need to rush to private hospitals.
